AHS: Psychological First Aid for a pandemic

Date: July 7th, 2020 

Times: Either – 10 a.m. – Noon OR 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Description:Psychological First Aid (PFA) is considered to be the first stage intervention during a disaster or emergency. During a pandemic, how we respond looks different but, the principles are the same. 

PFA Online Training allows responders to provide support over the phone to individuals that may be quarantined, in self-isolation, or practicing physical distancing in order to prevent the spread of a pandemic. 

The 2-hour interactive online training will cover essential tools, key PFA action principles, and self-care for responders.

Please note: training is done in real-time with opportunities for audience participation and audio is required.

Rugby coach development online workshop sign-up: Neuromuscular training warm-up

Date: June 18, 19 OR 23, 2020

The Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre at the University of Calgary is offering free coach development workshops on injury prevention warm-ups to rugby coaches across Alberta. Developed in partnership with World Rugby and Rugby Canada, this program is designed to reduce the risk of injury in your rugby athletes, preparing them for return to sport and supporting their continued participation throughout the season.

Pronghorns Athletics and ASDC SW Coaching Development Series

Date: Starts June 17 and runs until August 26, 2020

Pronghorn Athletics and Alberta Sports Development Southwest (ASDC SW) have joined forces to present a 10 session coaching development series.

Join Pronghorn Varsity Team Coaches and other industry professionals over the coming weeks for sharing and learning in a free coaching development series geared towards minor sport coaches in the Southern Alberta area.

Over the next 11 weeks, presenters will cover a topic each Wednesday night (excluding July 1) that can be translated to multiple sports and enhance tools that coaches have at their disposal to improve coaching performance and athlete success.

Welcome to Canada: Engaging Newcomers in Sport and Physical Activity

Newcomers to Canada require an individualized approach to enhance their own level of physical literacy through quality, stage-appropriate experiences. This course explores the barriers newcomers face to participation and solutions to address those barriers.

When you have completed the entire course and passed each learning assessment, you will be able to download/print a Certificate of Completion and for coaches maintaining their certification, obtain NCCP professional development points towards it. The course will take about an hour to complete.

Future Goals

Description: A FREE and fun online course to keep students and parents engaged at home Hockey has always been more than a game, it’s a community united by a sport. The NHL and NHLPA remain committed to supporting the hockey community, students, parents, and teachers during these ever-changing times. With many school districts and parents utilizing remote learning plans, we are offering teachers and parents free, remote access to our Future Goals program. Future Goals includes two online resources: Hockey Scholar – an interactive hockey-themed STEM curriculum for middle-school and elementary-school-aged students and Healthier Me – a program that provides elementary-school-aged students the tools they need to make healthy decisions.
