  • Nomination Guidelines

    • Nominations may be considered in another category if the selection committee feels the nominee is more suited.
    • Selection is based on the inclusion of information contained in applications.
    • Past winners are eligible for re-nomination only in the high performance categories.
  • General Criteria

    • Nominee must be a resident of Northwest Alberta during the time noted in the award criteria.
    • Nominee is in good standing with their local, provincial, and national sports associations.
    • Nominee is seen as an exemplary role model reflecting passion, spirit, dedication, determination, fair play, and other favourable qualities for the sport and its participants.

  • HIGH PERFORMANCE AWARDS

    Recognizing athletes and coaches reaching for success at the highest level in 2020.

    Female and Male Athlete of the Year

    • Recognizes one female and one male athlete excelling at provincial, national, or international sanctioned competitions.
    • Contributions recognized for activities from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

    Junior Female and Male Athlete of the Year

    • Recognizes one female and one male athlete excelling at local, regional, school, club and/or Alberta High Schools Athletics Association sanctioned competitions.
    • Contributions recognized for activities from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

    Team of the Year

    • Recognizes a team that has excelled at the provincial and/or national level at officially sanctioned or ratified competitions.
    • Contributions recognized for activities from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
    • Category may be awarded as male & female at the discretion of the nomination committee.

    Coach of the Year

    • Recognizes an NCCP certified coach coaching at the local, provincial, national, or international level at officially sanctioned or ratified competitions.
    • Contributions recognized for activities from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

    COMMUNITY AWARDS

    Recognizing contributions that have provided positive sport experiences in Northwest Alberta.

    Developmental Coach of the Year

    • Recognizes a coach responsible for developing the competitive skills of athletes participating at the grassroots level or competing at the regional or provincial level. This coach creates an environment for optimal skill development and fun and has completed or is working towards NCCP certification.
    • Contributions recognized for activities from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

    Outstanding Official

    • Recognizes an official officiating at the local, provincial, national, or international level who has also contributed to the development of officials at the local or regional level.
    • Contributions over a period of time will be considered. Nominee is still active.

    Sport Builder

    • Recognizes a person that demonstrates outstanding commitment and longstanding service in developing a club, organization, or sporting event resulting in a positive, developmentally appropriate impact on coaches and athletes.
    • Contributions over a period of time will be considered. Nominee is still active.

    Unsung Hero

    • Recognizes achievements and outstanding contribution made by a volunteer to their community or region, or to a specific sport activity, club, team, or group. This contribution has made a positive difference in the lives of others by support and encouragement, often with self-sacrifice and without personal gain.
    • Contributions over a period of time will be considered. Nominee is still active.

    Community Sportsmanship

    • Recognizes the outstanding contribution and achievements made by an individual or group (i.e. sport organization, club, team, or group) benefiting their community and/or area as a whole in the spirit of sport and sportsmanship. The initiative can be a single event or a long-term project or program.
    • Contributions recognized for activities primarily from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

              • Please write in point form including names of events, dates, and locations for each accomplishment. Include results, personal bests, and any awards received and/or established.

              • Letters of support are strongly encouraged for a successful nomination though are not mandatory.

                • Letters should not exceed one page and should include the following:
                  • Additional information, documentation, or background to support the nomination.
                  • Concise examples of behaviours/actions that demonstrate the character of the nominee(s).
                  • In addition to personal and local support, letters from official sources such as Provincial/National Sport Organizations or program when possible are encouraged.
